🏄♀️ Hello, thank you for reading A Helpful Thing! This is the FORTH edition, so be sure to read until the end for an interesting story involving the number 4! 🏄♀️
We all love Adam Sandler. HOW CAN YOU NOT? The ease with which he navigates the world in oversized basketball shorts while making us laugh is incredible on every level.
His last stand-up special, in particular, Love You, has been well reviewed, received, and even earned him a Golden Globe nomination. It served up this lesson in particular:
Bring the audience along with you!
I won’t give away too much if you haven’t seen it and are planning to, but Adam Sandler encounters some technical difficulties during his performance. Instead of apologizing to the crowd, going backstage, and yelling at someone, he talks to them about it in real-time and even allows everyone to listen in as he goes back and forth with the AV guy.
He brings everyone in the room (and watching at home) along for the ride and has us all invested in getting the AV to work. Had he gone backstage to deal with this, I would have immediately taken out my phone and started watching a Tik Tok about how a Minnesota mom gets her triplets ready for church. (Spoiler alert: It was close, but they made it just in time. No thanks to Danilyn’s antics though!)
Take it from Happy Gilmore himself and bring the audience along with you. Also, do not let your triplets take out finger paints right before church 🙄.
AS PROMISED…The 4th President of the United States, James Madison, was the smallest president to date. Madison was just 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighed only a hundred pounds. What a lil guy!

I didn’t even know about this special, thanks for the heads up - and advice!
